Quick Quotes
Q. (No Microphone.)
HARRIS ENGLISH: Total? Man, it's probably like six on PGA TOUR. One in the -- no, not in a tournament. I made one in a pro-am. It's probably six.
Q. Was it a perfect number, perfect shot situation?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Abe hit a 4-iron and he came up a little bit short, and I said, man, I can smoke this 5-iron because I'm about a club longer than him and it came off good and rolled nicely.
Q. How far was it?
HARRIS ENGLISH: 225 hole.
Q. Did you get loud?
HARRIS ENGLISH: I don't know how loud I got. I kind of blacked out there for 15 seconds. I know my caddie was pumped. He's a big wine guy and I know he's not going to forget about that one.
Q. I picked up on a heckler or a fan on 16. I don't know which he was. Could you tell?
HARRIS ENGLISH: No, he was a fan. He thought I was Hudson like half the people out here (laughing). Another guy in this group. I think he kind of had a couple beers. He was a little reserved. He was a fan of Abe's, and then obviously he knew who I was, went to Georgia and all that. He just couldn't quite tell from 50 yards out who I was.
Q. Did he actually call you Hudson?
HARRIS ENGLISH: No, no, he did. He did.
Q. Did that bother you?
HARRIS ENGLISH: No.
Q. (No Microphone.)
HARRIS ENGLISH: No. I find it funny. He gets it the same. I mean, we have had it since I was probably 14 years old. So it is what it is. I find it funny.
Q. What was the wine?
HARRIS ENGLISH: He just loves Caymus.
Q. Do you get wine at that hole-in-one?
HARRIS ENGLISH: No. I'm probably going to have to probably buy him wine. That's how it's going to be.
Q. Before you got to 15, did you think you were going nowhere fast or --
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I mean, I had been hitting it really good and not making a whole lot. Had a lot of good chances and, I mean, you don't think you're going to step up to 15 and make a 1. I mean, trying to make par there.
It was just one of those days where I was really close to taking it deep and just couldn't get it going. I usually putt these greens really well and was really close, had my speed a little off today. But I just gave me momentum. Birdieing 16, 17 and should have birdied 18, kind of gives you that momentum that you can birdie every hole.
Q. (No Microphone.)
HARRIS ENGLISH: Man, that's so hard to do on the spot. That's it.
Q. Does your mindset change after a day like today for the next three days?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Not really, I'm still chasing the lead, still got to play aggressive. I feel like I'm playing good golf, I really like this golf course, I feel like my strategy worked today. You just got to keep hitting fairways, this rough is pretty brutal. I know it's going to get firmer and faster, great weather today, we're going to have some more weather like this and it's just going to be one of those where you got to hit more and more fairways because the rough's going to get longer, the greens are going to get firmer and faster and you got to hit it well out here.
Q. Standing on the tee at 15, how intimidating is that hole?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it's not easy. I mean, you have to really zone in on target. I was aiming middle of the green and kind of I guess pulled it a smidge. But it's one of those holes where I'm just picking a spot in the middle of the green and taking 20 feet every single time and getting out of there.
Q. I guess having the first ace there, did you know that?
HARRIS ENGLISH: That's really cool, I didn't know that either. I saved the ball, so hopefully I can give it to East Lake and make a shadow box or something out of it. I made a hole-in-one at 12 at Augusta in a practice round right before my first Masters, so I have that in my office as well. So just this being able to go next to it will be pretty cool.
Q. Given the format, was there any part of you before you stepped up to 15 -- I think at that point were you probably eight shots out of the lead -- that said you better get moving, you don't want to get too far behind.
HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, but 15 tee is not a hole that you're trying to like get it going on that hole. I mean, you can definitely birdie the last three if not go birdie, birdie, eagle on 18. So it's one of those holes, 15, you're just really just trying to make par, just trying to hit it to 20 feet.
Q. Overall, where you are in the round coming to that final stretch, was there any sense of urgency that you normally don't feel on a Thursday?
HARRIS ENGLISH: Not really, not really. I kind of stick to my strategy. I mean, there's no use on a Thursday to go balls to the wall and try to hit driver everywhere and try to play too aggressive where it shoots you out of the tournament. I still feel like eight shots is not that much around here because today I was really close to shooting probably 5-, 6-, 7-under and I know you can do that and if the wind lays down, you hit the ball good out here you can have a lot of good chances. So I know it's right around the corner and 1- or 2-over par from the leaders is not too farfetched, so a lot can happen on this course.
