Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, UK
Quick Quotes
Q. Besides the wind, it's an absolutely spectacular day here. You just finished up out there. What's the course looking like?
LEONA MAGUIRE: It's in perfect shape. I think the greens are probably the best links greens I've putted on in a long time. I mean, regardless I think of the weather we get this week, that's the great thing about Carnoustie. We don't need much weather to make this a tough golf course. You just have to stand up and hit some really good shots regardless.
Q. Have you played here before?
LEONA MAGUIRE: I played the British Am here in 2012.
Q. Do you remember much about it? Is that coming back to help you at all?
LEONA MAGUIRE: I remember the weather being not good at all. I remember getting in and having to dry everything frantically to go out for the next match-play round and all of that.
But yeah, it's a proper golf course. It's a major championship golf course, and whoever wins this week is going to be playing some really good golf.
Q. What makes it a "proper" major championship golf course to you?
LEONA MAGUIRE: I think it's tough but fair. I think if you hit good shots, you're rewarded. If you're slightly off at all, you'll be punished and yeah, I mean, there's a lot of options. You can be as aggressive as you want off the tee, and take advantage of that, or you can play conservative and make it a lot tougher for yourself.
I think it's good that there's options and there's a lot of strategy to it. You can't just stand up and hit it wherever you want. I like golf courses that make you think, and this is definitely one of them.
Q. You've been playing incredibly well of late, very consistent. You played so well at Evian. What's the state of your game now here?
LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, like you said, it's been consistent. Just trying to get that consistency maybe a little bit better. There's been flashes of everything's been firing on all cylinders. Hopefully getting it all to click together. Hopefully it's this week, and if not hopefully in a few weeks' time.
Yeah, trying to give myself as many chances as I can. Been putting well and hitting a lot more irons this year and giving myself a lot more chances. Hopefully I can drive the ball well this week and give myself as many chances as I can.
