Quick Quotes
Q. How does it feel?
RYANN O'TOOLE: I can't even describe it. I've been obviously working my whole life for this and dreaming about it since I was a kid. I feel like ten years now, wondering, when is it going to happen and I just feel like this year's been very much kind of aligning and things are falling together and I just was trying to stay patient.
Q. Out pouring of emotion on the 18th green as the realization hit you, is that a culmination of all those years of hard work?
RYANN O'TOOLE: I believe so. I still feel like I'm in shock and the tears are going to come later when things die down. I'm excited and happy. The hours and grind and heartache this sport brings, the constant travel, for this moment, I hope it only happens again and again.
Q. You haven't led a tournament after round three. You looked in complete control throughout today. How do you keep all that pressure away just to perform at the level that you did?
RYANN O'TOOLE: You're right, I thought about that last night. I was nervous last night, trying to stay occupied and stay away from my phone a bit. It's just my friend, Cheyenne, reminded me of just staying in the process and in the moment, do what I did the last three days.
I have never been at the top coming into Sunday. I always feel like I've been chasing. So you know, it was a different feeling but at the same time, playing with a good group, Charlie and Ariya, I just tried to keep up and see where things fell and try to keep pressing while sticking to my game plan.
Q. With those players that you mentioned and Lydia as well breathing down your neck and the groups behind, how important was that birdie on 15 and the tee shot on 16?
RYANN O'TOOLE: I tried to not look at the leaderboard. I tried to just trust in my caddie to guide me to whether we needed to lay or get aggressive, stay patient or whatnot. It wasn't until 18 that I saw that Lydia was not far off and I could tell when I made the birdie on 17 that there must have been some sort of gap because people were cheering, and I was like, okay, clearly I can't mess this up too badly now.
Q. Were you following the game plan you told me about yesterday, one shot at a time?
RYANN O'TOOLE: Yeah, I really did. Like I said, I honestly had to think about what I shot on 18, once I looked at the board, I was like, okay, 8-under for the day, I want to make this to break my tournament record. I've only ever had 8-under; would like to shoot 9-under. But I have no complaints.
Q. And just a short journey to Carnoustie now?
RYANN O'TOOLE: You know what, one shot at a time, as good as I can. I do want to say thank you, though, to Trust Golf for making this event happen. Without you guys, we wouldn't be here.
For Dumbarnie Links, you setup a wonderful golf course, for only a year old, it was in fabulous shape. When the wind was up I was super excited to have a links golf course and wind and was able to anticipate what happened. Thank you to you both. I wouldn't be here without you guys.
I do want to say thanks to my sponsors, Holiday and Club Vacations has been with me forever. I just feel like Bob and Renee Parsons, my new sponsor, Peleton, without them, the constant support year after year, me chasing my dream and them constantly believing in me, not giving up; and I want to say thanks to my parents, they have been there since day one. I FaceTimed with them when I got done which was unbelievable.
And my fiancée, Gina, to have someone here with me on this day -- I had always dreamed of winning and at least having someone close, like here with me to share it, so I am thankful for all of you guys to come out and to be a part of this. Thank you.
