Quick Quotes
Q. 11 points today. Incredible start. Came up a little bit short. If we can get some comments.
ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, I mean, it was a dream start -- birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie, and then just kind of hit the brakes and stalled out a bit. And just didn't get it to happen those last few holes.
Q. What were you thinking after that fourth hole that start in terms of the position?
ANDREW PUTNAM: Obviously it's as good as it can be. And I knew I was going to have to keep getting more and more points. Obviously this format you gotta have a lot of low scores. But obviously starting off like that you feel like it could be your day. Tried not to get ahead of myself too much. But just stalled out a little bit and still a great week.
Q. 9 and 18 got you. Take us through the 18 hole there.
ANDREW PUTNAM: Just tugged my 3-wood a little bit. Thought it would maybe stay short of the left bunker if I hit it left. The lie was okay. The lip was pretty tall. And it was -- the lie was kind of sitting flat. It wasn't on an upslope.
Just chunked it a little bit. Not my best. And 9, I just kind of hit it one yard left of my target and scooted through into the rough and had a really scraggly lie that was hard to chip. Felt I was going to almost double chip it. Came up short and made bogey.
Q. Came into the week with three straight missed cuts. Talk about how this rights the ship and gives you a lot of confidence now.
ANDREW PUTNAM: Weirdly enough, I feel like I was playing really, really well. Even missing three cuts, the game felt good. I'm typically a great scorer and get the ball around really well. So it was kind of an anomaly for me.
So I expected to play well even though it hasn't been my best streak the last couple of months. In the past when I played bad it was obvious I wasn't playing well. So it was kind of a different story this time. But seeing some putts go in and momentum switch my way is going to be good for the rest of the season.
