Q. Congratulations on the win.
ELLE NACHMANN: Thank you.
Q. You just knocked off the No. 1 ranked amateur and the defending champion here. How are you feeling right now?
ELLE NACHMANN: I'm feeling amazing. I knew that she was going to be a tough competitor to come into this and play. She's world No. 1, defending champion. She won the Girls' Junior two week ago.
So she really played incredible. She was 2-up pretty much the whole back nine and then I kind of just gave a little bit more there and birdied one or two.
And then on the second to last hole she made a 12-footer for par coming back, so I had to make my little putt. And then she made her birdie putt here, which was incredible, so I had to make my putt just to beat her. That shows how well she was playing and how well I was playing.
Q. Couple clutch putts by you on the last few holes. On 13, I think you were down two heading into 13. That's the one you birdied. Talk me through that one that kind of turned the tables.
ELLE NACHMANN: Yeah, on 12 actually we both birdied, so I knew we were both playing well. It's a very tough hole. I knew it would probably win the hole. I hit my driver pretty well and kind of just trickled into the rough. You know, I'm able to kind of power through the rough here, which is definitely an advantage, so I put it up on the left side of the green and just let it trickle there. It was a little left-to-right putt. I love left-to-right putts. They're my favorite type of putt.
And it just kind of kept me motivated. 1-down, anyone can come back from 1-down. I knew I was 1-up on the front and I'm like, how was I feeling when I was 1-up. I knew she could at any point win, so that's where I was like, I'm only one down. She's probably thinking at any point I can win, and that's what kind of I did. So, yeah.
Q. What does this do for your confidence heading into the round of 32 tomorrow?
ELLE NACHMANN: I mean, it really, really makes any me confident. I have been playing some really good golf this summer. I almost qualified for the U.S. Open. Missed it by one, and then I won the Florida Amateur Championship, the stroke play, and then I finished runner-up in the match play championship, losing to an amazing player, Kendall Griffin.
My uncle Vincent, he was top 20 in the world in tennis and he has been working with me a lot and definitely with my mental game saying, You just got to stay mentally strong. I talked to him the last two days. He's like, it seems like you been doing really well mentally just keeping confident.
So that's what I did, I just listened to him and I was just staying confident out there saying he's probably watching me at home or not, I don't know, and just rooting for me saying, stay confident, so that's what I did to the last putt and it worked.
