Quick Quotes
Q. Laura Davies, 4-under 68, round of day so far. What was working well compared to yesterday?
LAURA DAVIES: Well, I changed putters. I brought two with me and I went with the wrong one. I virtually had the yips yesterday. I just putted horrifically and didn't think I would hole a putt again, and front nine played nicely and made some putts.
So good decision to put the old putter back in.
Q. It looked like scores are a bit higher today. Did you notice anything different with the course?
LAURA DAVIES: No. I think if anything, pins were in a little bit more difficult places. Having said, that they were a bit quicker, so I think they putted easier if you were in the right spots. Front nine I kept putting in the perfect spot; back nine not so much. Above a few pins and got caught out in a couple of the false fronts and came back down.
So overall, yeah, fair setter. 18 is a much better hole from back there. It's a really good hole.
Q. Can you give us some details on the two different putters and why this one worked?
LAURA DAVIES: Well the first one was rubbish and the second one was all right. No, I tried to change my putting style. I had a lesson -- not a lesson so much, but I was doing Sky Sports and there was a lot of free time, so Rob Lee was help me with my putting stroke.
So I changed putters to adapt it, but I think I've gone with what he said but with the old putter, and that seemed to work better today.
Yeah, they're both really nice putters, but one of them -- the one that I putted with today is a lot more upright and that suits my hands, I think.
Q. What is the model of it?
LAURA DAVIES: It's the Rossie, the new version of the old Rossie, the Callaway, or Odyssey.
Q. Did you feel you needed a couple more on the back nine to be within striking distance?
LAURA DAVIES: Oh, yeah, yeah. They're not going to back up. 'Lotte just made one from off the front of 15, so there's like 5, 7, 8, maybe 9-under.
Yeah, I put myself out of it yesterday. It was a truly horrific round of putting.
Q. I'm just curious, was it hard to go to sleep last night after a bad round of putting? Are you thinking about it in your head?
LAURA DAVIES: I'm terrified. Every time I step on these greens I'm terrified because they're good and tricky. They're a really true surface. You feel like you should hole lots of putts because they're so pure, and yet when you're -- I'm not going to say the word yip because that too extreme.
I wasn't getting the putter head -- my hands were stopping and wasn't getting it online. So, yeah, it's pretty miserable when you know you're hitting it pretty well tee-to-green and you know when you get on the green best result is going to be a two-putt.
Q. So what made you like that putter in the first place?
LAURA DAVIES: Well, like I said, Rob was helping me out a little bit and it just fitted what we were trying to do with a slightly less upright putter.
I think I -- like I said, I put into action -- and it's the Odyssey 2-Ball putter, which I've always quite liked. The grip is a bit thinner, it's a bit lighter, and all in all just didn't work out on these greens.
Q. What was your impression of Annika's game the first few days?
LAURA DAVIES: It's like she's never been away. It's incredible. Not as powerful obviously. Distance control is great, as you would always expect from Annika. Putted really well. Didn't make too many mistakes, and when she did her short game was up to it.
Yeah, pretty impressive considering she's been away. I know she's played a few tournaments this year, but not a run of tournaments, so I was pretty impressed, I have to say. Not that she's never not impressed me, but I didn't expect that.
