Quick Quotes
Q. 4-under to start; how did you find the conditions out there?
MATTHEW BALDWIN: It was brutal at times. It was really wet and obviously blustery with the wind. I played really nice, though, so I can't complain too much about it.
Q. Starting on the back nine, you picked up a few birdies towards the end. You just sort of took that into the front nine?
MATTHEW BALDWIN: Yeah, just holed some really nice putts, holed a lovely putt on 15 and then followed it up on 17 and 18 with two kind of 15- to 20-footers. I hit it close on the first, tucked it in, and then holed another probably 20-footer on 2.
Q. Moving into tomorrow, going to Massereene, which is seen as sort of the easier course, do you feel like you're really well positioned already?
MATTHEW BALDWIN: I'm trying not to think about that. I'll just go and play golf and see where I'm at.
Q. Is the back nine here easier than the front, or was that just a case of your game or could you talk us through maybe the golf course and where the opportunities are?
MATTHEW BALDWIN: Yeah, from a personal point of view I would say the back nine was a little more scorable. There's obviously two par-5s. The front nine is tricky. First hole is obviously quite tricky, and then tee shots like 3 and 6 are really tough. Even 8 obviously is quite tough. There's no room for error.
From my point of view, the front nine is tougher here, definitely.
Q. You almost hit me on 8.
MATTHEW BALDWIN: Yeah, I tried to get you. I saw the white jacket.
Q. I was an easy target.
MATTHEW BALDWIN: Yeah. It got a nice ricochet. I didn't make the most of it, unfortunately, but that's golf, isn't it.
