U.S JUNIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

July 22, 2021

Gordon Sargent

Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA

The Country Club of North Carolina

Quick Quotes

Q. Down the stretch, what are you thinking? What's the strategy?

GORDON SARGENT: I mean, you've still just got to give yourself chances. You can't really control what they're doing. My goal was to king of just be inside of him, have a putt to win the hole. I had a couple in the last couple holes and thankfully made that one on 17, but that was pretty nerve-racking. Hampton played pretty well.

Q. You've gotten through a close match now. How do you think that will help you going forward this afternoon and hopefully the rest of the week?

GORDON SARGENT: Yeah, I think I know what I need to work on. Kind of just tighten it up. Got game plan for this afternoon, so I'd like of like practice round on this now that we somehow won that match.

Q. On 18 did you know that you'd have to birdie?

GORDON SARGENT: Yeah, Hampton had gotten up-and-down from everywhere, and I was like -- I feel most comfortable with the driver, so I just ripped it and got a good break in the rough and hit a good one in there. Thankfully I was able to two-putt that one.
