Wimbledon, London, UK
Press Conference
K. MUCHOVA/P. Badosa
7-6, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Your second time in a row in Wimbledon that you play the quarterfinals. What is it about Wimbledon for you?
KAROLINA MUCHOVA: I think basically everything. Well, first of all, it's grass. I really like to play on grass. Then the club, the people, and everything. It's just really nice here. I'm really happy I made it again, and, yeah, I will try to go further this time.
Q. You're playing a German, Angelique Kerber. She won Wimbledon. What's so special about her, and what do you have to do about her and to get past her?
KAROLINA MUCHOVA: Yeah, she, as you said, she won it here. She knows how to play on grass. It's going to be very tough.
I didn't make any tactic yet. I didn't know who I'm playing before few minutes, so I don't really know what to play now, I can't tell you, but I will definitely check some matches of her and will prepare with the team the best for it so I can put up a great fight against her.
Q. Can you just talk through the comeback today in that opening set and how you were able to keep that match from getting away from you?
KAROLINA MUCHOVA: Yeah, the start was a little bit -- I felt like I was a little slow on my legs, and it was actually just one break, so even though -- she started serve so it looked like it was a bit more but it was just one break. I had my chances even before on her serve, I had few breaks, I could make it, I didn't.
But I still believed that I could, you know, when it's 5-4, it was a little bit pressure on her, if I put some good points in and the ball in that I have a chance to change it, and yeah, it happened like that today. So I'm really happy I still kept playing every ball, and yeah, that's basically it.
Q. You have the ability to bring your best tennis and get your best results at the biggest events on the biggest stages. This seems to be a recurring theme in your career. I'm curious if that ability to do that, does that surprise you? Or is that how you have always been throughout your career?
KAROLINA MUCHOVA: I don't know actually. Well, yeah, I'm focusing mostly on the Grand Slams and on big events. So definitely that's where I'm trying to be the most focused and going for it.
But it's not like I -- I didn't play that many tournaments this year, so I can't really tell, because I was struggling with injuries and everything. But, yeah, definitely trying to bring my best on the Grand Slams and, yeah, for now it's going good and I appreciate it.
Q. What do you remember, if anything, from when Angie beat Serena Williams in the finals here? How would you describe her style of play in general?
KAROLINA MUCHOVA: I don't think I saw that final, so I can't really tell you. Yeah, I played Angie on the hard court, I think maybe even two times, and she's very tough opponent. She never gives up. Feels like she's everywhere on every point.
Yeah, she's lefty, that definitely helps on the grass, as well, so she has many good strokes.
