Quick Quotes
THE MODERATOR: Miguel Angel Jimenez, thank you for coming in. 2-under 68 today. Could you take us through your round today with some of the birdies and tee shots.
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: I've been playing very solid today. Started on hole No. 10 and made birdie on the 13th hole, which I hit my driver to the edge of the green and I have two-putts for about six meters to the hole, made two-putt from there and make a birdie there.
Next birdie on hole No. 4, that was my 13th hole, I think. I hit it driver also used on the semi, on the first cut. Second shot missed a little bit right side, hole a putt. The only putt I hole all day for like maybe ten meters probably.
Then on the par-5, hole No. 6, I hit a beautiful driver there, nice 5-iron to the middle of the green, and make two putts for about eight meters.
Q. You've been playing well?
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: I've been playing very solid. I have a little chance for birdies. It's not easy to put the ball close to the holes, but I had a chance like three, four meters very often. Out there I missed my par putt on the 8th after making a drive okay. I hit my second shot on the left side with my 7-wood there and make it a beautiful shot with that slope in there and left my putt like 2 1/2 meters to the hole. I thought it was straight and it had a break a little bit to the left, and I missed that one for par.
I'm happy with my game. Happy with the way I hit the ball. Happy with the way the thing is going. Not that happy with my putter, but I don't know, I'll putt this afternoon.
THE MODERATOR: You've been playing well the last month, runner-up finish and tied for third last week. What's been going right for you?
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: I've been giving myself a little chances for birdies. I've been playing very well. That's the main thing, what happened in my game.
THE MODERATOR: A couple weeks ago, Jon Rahm won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. I don't know if you've had a chance to catch up with him and talk with him about that.
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: No, I didn't have a chance to talk, but I messaged to him. But we didn't have the chance to talk.
THE MODERATOR: And I'm sure a lot of good memories for you at Torrey Pines as well. You had a nice finish.
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: I think I finished 6th at Torrey Pines in 2008?
THE MODERATOR: 2008.
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: When Tiger won with the knee. He beat Rocco Mediate, yeah.
Q. Happy to start the weekend like this?
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: It's nice. I may not be hitting solid, and I feel comfortable on the hole, and I feel comfortable on the golf course too. The golf course is pretty tough, playing like a typical U.S. Open. High rough and fast green, not very hard. It wouldn't be playable. The whole course is set up beautifully, nice, and you need to play well to shoot low. That's the way it is, you know.
Q. Kind of living up to a Senior Open type quality?
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ: The quality of the courses are great, and the conditions to play a major is perfect. You know you don't hit it on the fairway, you don't going to hit the greens. You have to work hard to recover yourself, and you need to play well from green to tee to give you a chance for birdies and try to be there. That's what makes the difference.
