Atlanta Athletic Club
Trophy Presentation Interview
JIM RICHERSON: I'd like to thank the Atlanta Athletic Club and the members here, unbelievable hosts this entire week. For all the spectators that came out from Atlanta to support the championship and all those watching around the globe, on behalf of the PGA of America, the LPGA and KPMG, I'm very proud to present this trophy to the player that bested the strongest field in women's golf, the 2021 KPMG Women's PGA champion, Nelly Korda.
Q. Nelly, how were you able to best the best field so far in women's golf this year?
NELLY KORDA: Honestly, I have no idea. I just played really well last week, or this week. I had a great week last week, and I just carried the momentum into this week.
Q. How would you characterize the way you're playing right now with that victory last week and coming here and winning your first-ever major?
NELLY KORDA: I think I blacked out a little. I don't know, I mean, I've put in a lot of work, and to finally get a win, or two wins under my belt -- or three wins, sorry, three wins under my belt this year, and to get a major championship, I don't even have words, honestly.
Q. What does it mean to now be known as a major champion?
NELLY KORDA: I mean, honestly, this is something that I've worked for since I was 14, since I played in my first one. I wanted to be a major champion, and to finally get it done here in Atlanta with such an amazing crowd, honestly, it's really special.
Q. How were you able to handle yourself in a pressure cooker like this when you know what's churning inside?
NELLY KORDA: Thankfully I have an amazing caddie, so shout-out to Jason. Honestly, Lizette played really well today, as well, and I just tried to keep a level head and tell myself that there's so much golf left to be played and just take it a shot at a time.
