Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: Madelene Sagstrom, after a 4-under 68 here in the second round. Looked like a pretty good day for you out here. Five birdies, just one bogey. How are you feeling right now?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: I'm feeling pretty good. I'm playing very solid. I'm striking the ball well, gave myself a lot of chances today. I'm really excited about heading into the weekend. I'm going to go eat some and hit the putter on the putting green after.

THE MODERATOR: If you don't mind, tell us about your birdies. You had three on the front nine, which was the back, and two on the front. Any particular notable moments there?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: Well, I was able to go for some par-5s today, so I made a few quite comfortable birdies on that. I hit some really good wedges close, so I had a few just tap-in birdies and a few two-putts. I was striking the ball well, but I wasn't making any other putts in that. It was mostly the little short ones.

THE MODERATOR: Nothing wrong with little short ones. What are your take-aways from the golf course after two days of competition?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: Clearly, I like this golf course. It suits me very well. It suits my eye. I personally like that it's playing soft so I can take advantage of my carry. So I don't really feel it's that difficult in that sense. You're just going to have to pull the shots off. If you have a good week, then I think you can score well out here. The greens are rolling perfectly. I think it's just going to get tougher from here. So I'm excited for it.

Q. You might have been asked this question already, but have you used a range finder yet in the last couple days or any of your playing partners used a range finder?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: Yeah, our group has actually used it. I told my caddie, just let me know if it's something different. I'm personally not using it. He's just using it on the side. Every time, he does a little nod like that was correct, that was correct.

Q. Do you think it's helpful for him that he's able to use it or not?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: It's helpful that you know it's correct. I don't really think it's going to speed up play, but that's my personal opinion about it. It is what it is. It's quite cool.

Q. Earlier this month, you had an essay where you opened up on some pretty serious childhood traumas. Has getting that off your chest freed up your mind or your game at all?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: I think that every time that you talk about things that are really personal and things you are kind of defined by, every time it's always a sigh, it's always a relief. It's not as big as the first time I opened up about it, but knowing that I have the support and just continuing to focus on myself as more than just a golfer has really been important to me.

I think the more I talk about it, the more I have that other outlet of who I am as a person, the better I'm going to play because I'm not identifying as much with my golf.

Q. What's been really good in your game these last two days?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: I would say my ball striking has been the best part of my game. I've been striking it well off the tee. Today I seem to be in a lot of fairway bunkers because they're quite close to the fairways, but just giving myself chances. I've been taking my medicine when I needed to. Just try to get on the green and try to two-putt when I have to. That's kind of been my game plan all around.

Q. Did you drive it better today?

MADELENE SAGSTROM: It was pretty similar. I might have -- I don't know my stats really, but I might have hit more fairways yesterday. Like when I was in a bunker, I tried to play it a little more conservative, and get it on the green, two-putt, and walk away.

Out here par is a good score and you're going to get chances for birdies, and you're going to start losing the field when you make bigger numbers. So just trying to take those out of play.
