Quick Quotes
Q. Nice 3-under 69; that's a pretty good way to start a major. Tell us the story of your first round.
JESSICA KORDA: Yeah, started slowish, but made some good putts. I like the grain out here. I like the grass. It's something that I grew up playing, especially reading the greens. So yeah, I really liked it. Definitely towards the end the grain got a little bit stronger than I thought, so I left a couple out there, but that's the positive news, I guess.
Q. How did the course change from early in the week when it was really damp, really long, really soft. How has it progressed over the last few days?
JESSICA KORDA: It's still really wet. We had a lot of mud balls out there today and I was surprised we played the ball down. Some holes were really wet and some holes weren't. It also just depended on where you were landing the ball and which slopes you're landing them into. It's still a bit damp, I would say, but it's definitely trending in the right direction.
The greens are really, really good. They're fast, and they roll exactly how you think they should.
Q. You had five birdies on the day; any long putts there, any good stories or just five solid birdies?
JESSICA KORDA: I think I made one on -- I made a decent one on 2. It was a longer one. It was definitely a bonus birdie right there, but I'm pretty sure I handed it right back on 3. The wind swirls a lot out here, so sometimes you just don't feel it or all of a sudden something picks up right as your ball is mid-air. It's golf.
But pretty solid birdies. Yeah, just had some good looks.
Q. What are the takeaways from today that you take into tomorrow?
JESSICA KORDA: Well, we'll see what it plays like tomorrow. I think usually in the mornings the greens will be probably a bit faster, and then it might be a little bit more wet out there because the morning dew kind of sits a bit. So we'll see what it's playing like tomorrow. Turnaround is not too long.
Q. You were playing with Charley. Were you feeding off each other? Were you aware how each other was playing?
JESSICA KORDA: All three of us, I think we all birdied 2 and then we all bogeyed 3. But we were all feeding off each other. It's just a great vibe out there. I've played with So Yeon a lot, haven't seen Charley too much, so just catching up out there, as well.
