Q. How do you feel like your round went today?

JOE HIGHSMITH: Not very well. I mean, I kind of made a lot of stupid mistakes and never got any momentum going. I fortunately finished kind of strong there and hit some good shots coming in, but I'll take it. First round in a major, in a U.S. Open. I was definitely pretty nervous. Could be worse, but I definitely need a good one tomorrow.

Q. How has your experience been so far competing in the U.S. Open as an amateur?

JOE HIGHSMITH: It's been really good. The USGA does such a good job hosting these events. It's been great to have a small fan group following this week, but so far it's been nothing but perfect.
