Quick Quotes

Q. It would take a lot for her to make moves next week with you not playing and the week where you're going to make a move for the Olympic team is at KPMG. You told me you thought a lot about it. Take me through the thought process with trying to make the Olympic team.

YU LIU: It's been a goal of mine since I was a little kid to be an Olympian representing my country. It would be a dream come true.

With the COVID situation it got postponed by almost a year now. It's just -- I mean, I went through a lot of things like over the last couple of months. I think I struggled a lot with my game and my mental aspect I think because of COVID. It really changes a lot of the stuff.

But I feel like my game, it's on the -- it's getting back on the right track now. Just some little things here and there that I still need to polish up, and just most importantly, just put my mind in the right place. I think that will be the key for me next week.

Q. What will you work on besides the mental aspect in your game next week to get ready for a major?

YU LIU: I feel like long game I've been playing pretty solid, pretty consistent, which I was struggling for a while, like especially tee shots. Like I haven't been able to -- I lost a lot of confidence on my long game which used to be one of my biggest strengths. I feel like just going through that and figuring out things and grinding it out every day and learning from experience really helped.

I feel like I've become more solid than before just knowing more about myself and my game and techniques and everything. It's on the right track. There is a lot of positives. Just going to try take the positives and slowly build confidence from it.

Q. Are you and Janet pretty close?

YU LIU: We used to be very close as a kid, and then we kind of took different path because she turned pro early and I went to school. And now we're like, you know, head-to-head, so it's hard to be friends, to be honest.

So, yeah, but we're just doing our own things. I think whoever performs the best will be the most deserved player to go to Tokyo.

Q. Is it fair to say there is a healthy rivalry?

YU LIU: For sure. I think that's what we work hard for. I mean, I think that's the best part about sport, is it's very simple: Good golf takes you to the right places, so I think that's very healthy and makes stuff easy.
