A. KALININA/A. Kerber
6-2, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. You were competing well today, particularly in the second set. Why do you think you are not able to play at the level that you might like to play right now?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Yeah, I don't know. I think I had a late start, especially I start to play better in the second set, but yeah, I don't know. I think she played good. I was not able to play my best tennis or like how I practiced in the last few days, and yeah, I think I have to accept that and looking forward to the next challenge.
Q. The last year has been very difficult for lots of people. Can you just talk briefly about what the last year has been like for you and the challenges that you think you've faced?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Yeah, I think for everyone, it was a really hard year last year. I mean, everyone did the best of the situation, and of course it was hard, but now it's getting better, and of course it's nice to see the fans back on the court and having the support of them. But of course everything was a challenge, especially last year.
Q. I know that Wimbledon is around a month away, so you might not be thinking about that right now, but you've had lots of success there in the past. You were always a favorite with the crowd at Wimbledon. When I say the word "Wimbledon," what does that mean to you?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: I mean, it feels a little bit better than here. You know, for me now I will try to learn from the match now because I played good the last few weeks and I had good matches. I did the best preparation I could do in the last few weeks on clay, but yeah, it's fine, and now I'm looking forward to Wimbledon for the grass court season, and it sounds much better for me, so I'm happy that the next Grand Slam is on grass.
