Press Conference
M. YMER/G. Monfils
6-0, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Sorry for the loss. We could see you were not yourself today, but I was wondering, over 60 unforced errors, how did Mikael Ymer come out of off court as a winner?
GAEL MONFILS: Definitely I think it's just being himself. I think I put the ball in play and tried to be very smart, you know, with the placement.
I made a lot of unforced errors unfortunately today, and here and there that help him just enough to, yeah, to take the win today.
I think he didn't do much than just, you know, put the ball in and be aggressive, few shot in there and then just be solid. That's how it is.
Q. It has been a difficult year for lots of people all around the world. Many people were inspired seeing you play at Roland Garros again. Over the last few months you seem a lot happier off the court as well. What would you like to say to people who have watched you over the last few months on your journey to hopefully continue to inspire them? Because I know that you have had bad times in the past.
GAEL MONFILS: Yeah, as you mention, we had a tough situation for the last few months, and now even myself it was really hard and much more happier to be back on tour, back on the court.
Definitely, you know, to have the fans back, it's better. They make it so much easier. I just want to tell them that, you know, I try to enjoy myself more, try to be even a better player than I used to be a few months before and not giving up. Even must be really hard for them, my real fans, to see today's performance, but I think it happens. Need to bounce back.
I hope I will be able to give them more joy and more better tennis in the next few months.
