Press Conference
HERBERT-MAHUT/Cabal-Farah
6-7, 7-6, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. What are the main emotions after that amazing comeback?
PIERRE-HUGUES HERBERT: It's a lot of emotions actually. I think, first of all, from my side, I was really tired. I think Nico, too. It's a mix of a lot. What happened with the public was just insane. It's just amazing what we could experience on court.
Yeah, relief also from my side because this last game was a pain in the ass, I would say, was not an easy one (laughter). Just happiness. I think we're proud to be able to be now in the final again here in France. Just happy also to give this victory to all the people who are cheering for us and who are pushing for us to win on the court.
Yeah, a big mix of emotions.
Q. You've achieved so much together. Three match points down, that eight-minute last game, where does that rank in all your Roland Garros moments?
NICOLAS MAHUT: In the top.
PIERRE-HUGUES HERBERT: In the top, yes. Definitely at the top. I mean, if would have been the final, would have been number one, for sure. But it's a semifinal. We know it's a great moment, for sure. It's a great relief. We're really happy tonight.
But we still know there's one more match to win to get the trophy. It's only the semifinal.
Q. Intriguing matchup in the final with Bublik and Golubev. What do you think of that one?
PIERRE-HUGUES HERBERT: Bublik, it was his second time in the semifinal I think. He's an amazing doubles player. Golubev has been playing amazing the past two years. He's been winning challengers, I don't even know how many he won. Actually it's a team that beat me personally. I didn't play with Nico in the beginning of the year.
I know they're playing really good tennis. We saw it also before the match. They had troubles in the first set. Saved one game in the beginning of the second. From that game they were playing amazing tennis and finished up with some great level in the third. We're expecting again a big fight in the final.
Q. Do you feel like from Rio, heading into Tokyo, you might have unfinished business to complete the trophy cabinet?
PIERRE-HUGUES HERBERT: For sure for us it's really important what happens right now for the Olympics. We arrived in Rio with three Masters 1000 victories and one Grand Slam. Also we won our match in Davis Cup, our first match together.
We came up with a lot of confidence. We lost against Cabal-Farah in our first round there. For sure it helps to get some wins and confidence before the Olympics, but I don't think it's going to mean that much. We are going to have to be really focused and with a good energy if we want to have a chance to do something there.
