LPGA MEDIHEAL CHAMPIONSHIP

June 11, 2021

Alison Lee

Daly City, California, USA

Lake Merced Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, even though it was an even day, still three off the lead as we head into the weekend. You're pretty high up the leaderboard. How are you feeling after day two?

ALISON LEE: I'm feeling really good. I hit the ball really well today. I mean, to be honest, I feel like I played better than even par today. I missed quite a few putts out there.

Yeah, the pins were in a little bit more tricky positions today. You definitely had to play a little bit smarter and not get too aggressive with a lot of shots.

I can't say I'm disappointed with an even par because it is playing harder today, but, you know, I did leave a few putts out there, but overall happy with my finish and we still got a lot of golf to play.

Q. What do you like most about Lake Merced? Is it the challenging aspect especially coming off Olympic Club last week?

ALISON LEE: Oh, yeah, of course. I've played this course many times. I actually played in the U.S. Girls at this course back in 2012, and so I have a lot of memories here. It's in California. My parents drove up. So it feels close to home.

I feel really familiar with this golf course because we've played so many times. I feel like right at home. It's very similar style to Olympic Club.

So, yeah, just take what I know from previous knowledge and try and use that to my advantage and just try and play good golf, make birdies when I can, but try and make as many pars as I can as well.

Q. Feel like last week, all that major pressure, I know you were able to qualify to get into that major, but how much did last week help getting back into like this zone of confidence that you talked about yesterday?

ALISON LEE: You know, it's been really difficult. This is my seventh year on tour now. I definitely had several years where I just kind of fell off a cliff, I didn't know how to hit the golf ball.

And so at the beginning of the year trying to play in a bunch of Monday qualifiers just to play and trying to qualify for the U.S. Open, I mean, I feel like my game has been in a really good place in the past year.

So I'm just glad I can tee it up and basically showcase how I'm playing and hopefully get better as the days go by. I'm honestly happy that I'm playing. I mean, a few months ago I thought I would have to Monday qualify into everything and I didn't even know how many LPGA events I would have to play. I'm thought I would have to play more Symetra.

But I'm just happy that I'm here and back on the big stage, yeah.

Q. How much does it take to work on also the mental aspect of that? As you said, you have the experience to be out here, but just working on that mental aspect as you continue on through this year.

ALISON LEE: It's tough. I would say there is no right answer to that. Everyone has their on way of dealing with things. It just comes down to confidence. If you believe if yourself and if you can stand over a shot and believe that you can pull it off.

So that's a lot of the work I've had to do. It obviously takes a while. It's not something you can do overnight. I've just been trying to build my game back up piece by piece, and it's slowly falling into place now.

Like happy with last week, happy with the last couple days, so hopefully just keep moving forward.

Q. And also some great appearances at the LPGA match play as well. We've seen you hit your stride over the last couple events. I know it was an even power day, but this is a course where people don't necessarily go too low. How confident are you heading into the weekend after two great days of play here?

ALISON LEE: I feel really good. I'm hitting the ball] really well. I gave myself a lot of birdie chances out there today. I feel like I played way better than even par, to be completely honest.

But I'm just happy. I guess I will just take that away and go into the weekend. Like I said, even par is a great score, but I definitely feel as though I played a lot better than that today.

If I just keep playing like how I am the last couple days and a few more putts roll in, should be looking good going into Sunday.
