Quick Quotes
Q. Can you talk us through your round and kind of the preparation coming into this major.
SHANSHAN FENG: Yeah. I would say that I never had the habit to come over to a course like early, like so I always just saw the practice round on the week. So that's what I did. I came over after last week.
I took Monday off. I played ten and eight Tuesday and Wednesday. I think it's a very challenging course, but if you can hit it straight, I think you can get most of the troubles out of your way, and that's what I was trying to do.
They moved a lot of the tees up today to make it much easier, I would say. So I expect the scores to be a little better than I was expecting. But this is U.S. Open, so I believe they're going to put the tees back on the weekend, and it's going to play super tough, but I'm ready.
Q. So after your bogey on 14, you came back with two birdies. Kind of what was your mentality? How were you able to finish so strong?
SHANSHAN FENG: The thing is on this course everybody's going to make mistakes. I don't think anybody can play like a bogey-free round here. If you do, that's super.
Q. It's really great.
SHANSHAN FENG: Yeah. But I actually will allow myself to make a few mistakes. So that bogey didn't really bother me at all, and then I would say that it was -- I just finished -- I just made a few putts on the back after that to come back. So it was great.
Q. Are you going to prepare any differently tomorrow or change anything up heading into the second round?
SHANSHAN FENG: No, I think overall I did pretty well today. I'm just going to stick to my plan. Yeah, that's it.
