Quick Quotes
THE MODERATOR: Angel Yin, 3-under 68. An eagle, birdie finish. Walk us through the eagle.
ANGEL YIN: I hit a really good drive. I was in the fairway, so I was able to hit my 3-wood around like 250-something to the green -- to the hole actually, with the slope. So was like, Let's just hit 3-wood. Hit my 3-wood, got up to the front of the green, and made my putt.
THE MODERATOR: All week we've heard rough is tough, narrow fairways. You looked comfortable out there. Talk us through the course today.
ANGEL YIN: I don't know if I was comfortable. I teed off so early and I was so cold, I was kind of falling asleep. The front nine, I was like, gosh, I'm so tired. Now I'm hungry. Didn't hit many fairways on the front nine, so I think that showed on the scorecard.
I think just hitting the fairways this week is essential to having a good round. I don't think distance will help that much because the rough is so long. You're going to break your wrist if you hit it all at a time.
Q. Was pace of play an issue out there at all today?
ANGEL YIN: Our group was fine (Laughter). Our group was good. That's all.
Q. Did you make an adjustment then with what you hit off the tees?
ANGEL YIN: I complained to my caddie, and poof, it just went straight. Just complain to your caddie, that's it. Then all your worries will go away.
Q. How did you see the course change from Monday when you arrived to today?
ANGEL YIN: So Monday the rough was thicker, and they managed to cut and tame it a little bit. It's still really, really long, but my caddie threw a ball on the greenside rough right in front of me and it disappeared. Where's the ball? It's a bit stressful. Plus there's no spotters, so it's more stressful trying to find your golf ball.
Q. What was your best rough -- or shot out of the rough today? What's your most memorable shot?
ANGEL YIN: My first birdie on No. 9. I hit an 8-iron and it got a really good kick in front of the green and went up to about ten feet and I made the putt. That started my birdie train, which was quite nice.
Q. What was that lie like?
ANGEL YIN: Nasty. There was a really bad lie on a par-5. I can't remember what it was. And I just looked at it, and I was like, Oh, my wrist hurts just by looking at it.
Q. Being able to advance out of the rough like you did and make birdie, did that give you some sense of confidence?
ANGEL YIN: Yeah, for sure. It validated I'm legit (Laughter). I'm just kidding. No, it just put a lot of confidence because I didn't make any birdies on the front nine -- well, first eight holes -- so it was good to make a birdie again, and that's how it started.
Q. What you did today shows you how quickly you can move up the board, right, in these situations?
ANGEL YIN: For sure. The whole entire field is really tight. Everyone is good all around the world and competing here. Just got to keep my head down and keep hitting fairways and greens, make putts, all that.
Q. Coming into today, what kind of score did you think would win this event?
ANGEL YIN: I don't know. I haven't really thought that far. I kind of just live moment by moment, minute by minute, so I really don't know.
Q. Did you think 3-under was awesome?
ANGEL YIN: No idea. I will tell you on Sunday.
