Quick Quotes
Southern Hills Country Club
THE MODERATOR: Welcome back to the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. We're here at Southern Hills Country Club, Tulsa, Oklahoma. We are with Mr. Brandt Jobe. Even par 70 today. 4-over for the championship. You started out a little up-and-down, but then you really leveled out there in your back nine, a lot of pars coming in. What are we seeing out there on the golf course?
BRANDT JOBE: Hard to get the ball close. A couple birdies I made were short putts and it seemed like I was 30 feet all day long or just on the edges, it was just hard to get the ball close. And the greens were just a little quicker today, so that was kind of an adjustment. A little more penalty for being above the hole than the past couple days.
THE MODERATOR: Do you think that's the main difference in the golf course, scores seem a little higher?
BRANDT JOBE: Yeah, I think that the green speeds -- that's the defense, with how tough these greens are, if you speed these up, boy, then you got to hit in the right spot. They're a little quicker and it's the difference between having that 2-foot tap-in and having a 4- or 5-footer.
Q. How many miles you put on the car this week?
BRANDT JOBE: Too many. I did. I think I did four trips. I'm here, they all came up today and so they're going to head back and come up tomorrow. So four good trips. And it all worked out, I made my son's graduation. Of course they delayed it. Here I'm in a hurry to get back, because they had weather so we caught weather at about 6 o'clock, they delayed it until 8. So I got back here about 12:45 at night Thursday night.
Q. How cool is the opportunity to be here in kind of your backyard and playing a major?
BRANDT JOBE: It's really cool to play in Oklahoma. It really is. Obviously very proud of it. Obviously this is an incredible venue, so -- I've certainly got mad at it enough, because it's a tough, tough golf course. It's a good test. I mean, the guy playing the best is going to win here and that's what you want.
THE MODERATOR: It's not pressure but is it fun having the family kind of following you around? That doesn't happen every week.
BRANDT JOBE: It doesn't. And I have my daughter, who is in college, she's here this week, she was in town. So I had my whole family here. So that's nice, that doesn't happen very often. When they were little kids, yes, but not now. So it's just been a nice week, it really has.
Q. You had that horrific hand accident that took awhile to get back from. Do you view all this as a big bonus?
BRANDT JOBE: Oh, there's no doubt about it. I think when you turn 50, number one, to even play a sport -- golf gets questioned on being a sport, but with the young guys it certainly is now. But having an opportunity to come out here I said, hey, if I get to play five years, that's awesome. And I don't know, I've got a shoulder that's on its last leg and don't feel my fingers, so I feel kind of fortunate to be out. But now I'm kind of like, well why not five more years. You get greedy. So trying right now to enjoy it. It's been a busy spring for me with everything going on, so finally get to kind of turn the page and work on golf a little bit and not be dad.
