BANK OF HOPE LPGA MATCH-PLAY

May 27, 2021

Jenny Coleman

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. Jenny Coleman, nice 2&1 win over Angela Stanford. Two big wins in two days for you. For someone still fairly new to match play, you said this is only your second match play event, you should be pretty proud of yourself. How are you feeling right now?

JENNY COLEMAN: Feeling great. This is awesome. Just playing good golf and it's showing.

Q. It absolutely is. Took out Brooke Henderson yesterday; today won over Angela Stanford, one of the USA stalwarts for Solheim Cup. Tell us about the match today. She fought back. You had a 3-up lead, she was able to battle back, but you ultimately took the win.

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, we both were just grinding hard out there, and she's, yeah, definitely a grinder and giving it all her best.

We both -- I started off hot and then she got pretty hot in the middle, and then I had some clutch up and downs coming in and then just rode it out.

Q. What were your thoughts there? Looks like it was about 13, 14, which is where she squared the match for the first time since the early round. What was running through your mind then?

JENNY COLEMAN: I was just kind of like, It's all right. It's swinging her way. I mean, I got it early; she's going to get it there. We'll see how the last few holes work out. That's it.

Q. They clearly worked out in your favor. It was a par on No. 15 where you took the lead again. If you don't mind telling us about that hole and how you finished out.

JENNY COLEMAN: 15, yeah.

Q. Where you went 1-up with a par there.

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, we both had to get up and down. Just super -- had a longer shot in. Both had to get up and down. I just got up and down.

Q. Uh-huh. Ultimately you took down one of the USA's stalwarts today; you took down one of the best players -- Angela too -- but one of the best players in the world yesterday in Brooke, setting yourself up well to get into the bracket. Overall what has been your thoughts that you'll take from the last two days?

JENNY COLEMAN: That I've got the game. Just sticking to my game and playing smart, and my caddie is there and we're seeing similar shots and similar plays. Just keep the bogeys -- no doubles just keep the bogeys to a minimum and grind out the up and downs for par, when you got birdie chances you got to capitalize.

Q. Is match play growing on you?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah. It's definitely different, but yeah. I'm enjoying it.

Q. What is different? We know what's different, but I would think it's a lot of mentality. How has the change been for you?

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah, I think you're never out of it in match play. I feel like something about it, you just keep -- once you start getting down it fires you up a little bit more to get back, and so it kind of tells you what kind of shot you got to hit.

If someone is hitting close for birdie and you have to get up and down, well, you got to get there. Or if someone is out of position, you're like, All right, maybe let's just make this a three-shot par-5, take it easy, and get an easy birdie or par, and if you're looking like par, a bogey.

So, yeah, just mixing it up and being flexible with a variety of ways to play the hole.

Q. Really mental it seems like.

JENNY COLEMAN: Yeah. Whatever way you want to go, just commit, keep going.
