Quick Quotes
Q. Doing the math in our mind for tomorrow, thinking there is likely going to be a playoff in your squad of four, did you know how important it was for to you get that W on the last hole?
HANNAH GREEN: No, I hadn't looked at leaderboards at all today. I was obviously quite up during the front nine so I just wanted to make sure I did my own part and got my own win. Obviously hearing that, that's a pretty close group. I did think once I saw our pod that it would be really tough matches that would be really close.
I'm hoping that I can continue my form that I had on the front nine for the entire round tomorrow and come out on top of my pod.
Q. How do you get yourself to do that? You want to do that, but how do you get yourself to bring out your best tomorrow when it's more than likely you're going to need a win to have a chance to advance?
HANNAH GREEN: It's hard to know you need a win. There is pressure from that and also trying to do your best out there. Today I got a bit slack on the back nine. Had a few bogeys in a row and kind of let the momentum switch toward Aza's way.
I know I get pretty tough on myself, so I've got to give myself a break. This week is a really challenging gold course. Greens are getting really firm. It's hard. You're hitting great shots and they're not necessarily going close.
I think I got to stay patient and make sure I'm not, yeah, getting too hard on myself too early. Still a long week.
Q. Hannah Green, a nice 1-up victory over Azahara Munoz, bouncing back from a tough loss on day one to right the ship and get in the win column. You started off really strong, up five through seven holes. Take us through the strong start.
HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I guess it took a while for Aza and I to adjust to the firmer greens. We played -- I was first group and I think she was second group yesterday, so it was a bit softer conditions. So a little bit of a transition getting used to that.
And gave myself really good opportunities for birdie, so managed to capitalize on that. And then got really slack during the middle of the round. I think I had three bogeys or four bogeys within five or six holes, so kind of was losing a little bit there.
The momentum definitely switched. I guess it's kind of hard with match play to not let that affect you. I feel like if it's stroke play you just try and move on and do the best you can instead of trying to beat your opponent.
So obviously now I know the stakes. All of us in our pod have each won a match, so tomorrow is a big day. I'm hoping that that I can stay in it a little bit more and not get so flustered.
Q. You mentioned a tough stretch from 8, 9, and 10, bogeys on each of those holes. Your lead was trimmed to two and she trimmed it to one on No. 12, but you bounced back immediately after that.
HANNAH GREEN: Yep.
Q. You guys went back and forth from 12 to 15. Did you tell yourself anything after that stretch maybe on 11 tee or 12? Did you tell yourself anything, like, Hey, let's get focused in here?
HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, well I knew that the greens were going to be really firm and obviously knew where the pins were going to be, so it's hard. You want to be aggressive and make birdies, but sometimes par is going to win.
I think I mentally just lost it in the back nine. Obviously Aza played great and made some birdies coming in, but I think I also slipped a little bit. So that's what I'm going to have to prepare for tomorrow. It's going to be a tough match against Mel.
So, yeah, I'm hoping I can get some good night's rest and prepare for a big day.
Q. You got the brunt of the Vegas heat this afternoon after the cloudy morning yesterday. I would imagine that changed a few dynamics?
HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, it was a huge difference. This heat doesn't really bother me. This is kind of like home. After being in Thailand and Singapore with the humidity, this feels like nothing. I think it was just noticing how the golf course has changed was the biggest difference between yesterday and today.
So be interesting to see where they put the pins and the tee setup, but I'm sure they'll do a good job.
Q. I'm sure you know all about Mel's ferocity on a golf course, especially when it comes to match play and Solheim Cups. Is that something you can feed off tomorrow?
HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, I mean, this kind of sounds rude, but if I'm beating her and got a lead on her I think it will be quite hard to get back.
So, I mean, it's the same with me. I think I'm pretty feisty on the golf course, so I think it'll actually be an interesting match.
I think we'll both be -- hopefully we'll not be up and down, but I think it will be quite a tight match and birdies will be winning holes tomorrow.
