Southern Hills Country Club
THE MODERATOR: Welcome back to the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. We're Here At Southern Hills Country Club, Tulsa, Oklahoma. We're joined by Bob Sowards. Bob posted a 5-over par 75, second round. However, for the championship 2-over par. Bob, those numbers may not tell the story. You were leading this championship for about 30, 31 holes. So it's a little bit of a tale of two rounds. But how good were you going for awhile there and then what might have changed?
BOB SOWARDS: Well I was playing well. I started missing fairways, so therefore it's hard to hit greens out of the rough. I think I hit bunkers the last five or six holes. And I thinned a couple, made double, and then I just gave away a lot of shots coming in. If I just made bogey on the holes I'm not in bad shape. But it's just a hard course if you start missing fairways.
Q. It looked like 15 you got a little unlucky being on the side of that tree and 16 you weren't far off, so is it the type of course you can just be a little off and it can be pretty penal?
BOB SOWARDS: Absolutely. Like 18 I thought I hit a decent drive and it goes barely in the rough and I can't even get it to the green. I made double there instead of making bogey, giving a shot away. But you don't have to be very far off to start making big numbers on this course.
Q. Were you pretty aware you were leading the tournament? Were you looking at boards?
BOB SOWARDS: Yeah, the leaderboard walking down 10 looked pretty cool. That was pretty cool seeing my name on top of the leaderboard. It wasn't too far off, just started missing fairway, hitting bunkers and my bunker game wasn't very good today.
