The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island
Quick Quotes
JOHN DEVER: Good afternoon and welcome back to the 2021 PGA Championship at the The Ocean Course here in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
We are joined by Joaquin Niemann who posted a 1-under 71 today, now 2-under for the championship and at the moment in a tie for sixth.
You played the much tougher back side, I know the wind is not up, but still to birdie three of your last eight holes, that's a heck of a charge there.
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Yeah, I felt I was hitting the ball really good. I just had some bad decisions at the start of the round, some irons that I didn't commit and that's why I didn't make a good swing and ended up making bogeys.
I'm pretty proud and happy the way I handled my round and the way I played the back nine, and finishing under par is pretty good.
JOHN DEVER: You're coming to the golf course tomorrow with an eye on winning, aren't you?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Of course, I'm going to keep doing the same. It's going to be a different wind tomorrow and it's going to be different for everybody. It's going to be a challenging day, and we are going to try to make the most of how I'm playing and hopefully have a good one.
Q. Maybe talk about the birdie on 18; there have not been a lot out there today. That was an important moment in the championship for you, wasn't it?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Yeah, it's playing a little different, the 18th. To play the first two rounds almost straight in the wind and now it's just off the right, and I just ripped a driver over the last bunker and I hit it pretty good and ended up like 150 yards to the hole, which is a lot easier than being 250 in the first two days. I finished with a birdie on the last one and it gave me a lot of energy, and, yeah, confidence for tomorrow.
