Flash Quotes
THE MODERATOR: We are joined by Bryson DeChambeau, who posted a 1-under par-71 today. He is currently 1-under par for the championship, currently T12.
Terrific round, really solid play on the front, three birdies. You kind of held in there right through the end. How did you play?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, I played pretty well despite the conditions. I didn't take advantage of 10 and 11, which kind of throttled my momentum a little bit, and unfortunately golf is a game of momentum. 13, hit two good shots there, and it bounced one yard short of the green and didn't bounce up next to the hole and had a 30-footer consequently. 14, should have hit 7-iron, should have made sure I was a little short, and actually the 6-iron went too long left and got absolutely into no man's land, had to get out there and make a save, a bogey.
I actually hit it pretty well coming in. It's just the ball didn't seem to want to go on the fairway or go on the green, despite 17, I hit it unbelievable on that hole. 18 was the same thing, hit a great drive, just went in the left rough, hit a great 8-iron into the rough and kind of throttled over to the right and went down in that gully and up against the rough.
Probably should have taken relief from that area, could have easily done that. I thought I had a good enough lie to kind of bounce and run it up and just didn't get it up that mound.
Q. Is the wind harder on your long game, tee shots, whatever the case may be, or your putting?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Oh, putting, no doubt about it. I think it plays such a huge role in how much a putt breaks and the speed of the putt. You get these little gusts, and you're just not going to make it. There's so many times out there that Collin and Hideki, we were just influenced by the wind. We couldn't do anything about it. The driving for the most part, you can hit it in the fairway, but yeah, putting is a nightmare sometimes.
Q. You mentioned 17; did you hit that ball where you were aiming?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Oh, I pushed it just a little bit. But I played it left enough so that I knew if I pushed it, it would be okay. I came out with a great spin rate and knew it was going to get there.
Q. What's on the agenda tonight? Just to wind down, get away from it all and come back fresh tomorrow?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, I'm going to hit some golf balls real quick, get the swing ironed out, just make sure I'm hitting it good just like I was this morning, and go get something to eat real quick and go get a light little workout in, make sure all my motions are good, and go to sleep, try to get 10 hours of sleep.
Q. What does the light workout look like?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: It's going to be still heavy weight but moving through full ranges of motion and making sure I've got my core work in, my legs work in, just most of my upper body work in, just probably 30, 40 minutes of work.
Q. How do you feel about where you are on the leaderboard, where you are in the championship at the halfway mark?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, I think if I could put a good number up tomorrow, hold strong in the wind and shoot 2-, 3-under tomorrow, I'll be right there for Sunday. I'm just creeping up that leaderboard slowly but surely, and if I can do that like I did at Winged Foot, that's A-Ok with me.
THE MODERATOR: Bryson, thank you for stopping by.
