Quick Quotes
Q. Guys, 3-under 69 today. You made birdie on all four of the par-5s. How well did your games mesh in this format?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think pretty well. Bubba hit it fantastic today. I can't really think of a shot that he didn't hit pretty much exactly the way he wanted to. When you've got that for half the shots, that's awesome.
Really good up-and-down on 18. I can't really say enough to how good of a shot that was. You may not have been able to tell on TV, but that was a fantastic shot, and the way he was striking it, it was easy for me to just tag along today.
Q. Bubba, you talk about wanting to have fun out there. How important is that in an unfamiliar foursomes format?
BUBBA WATSON: You know, it's funny, we were talking about this out there. I feel like in teams events that I've played in the past, I feel like this is my better format because it keeps me focused. It keeps me focused on making sure he's relaxed, whatever your partner is, keep them relaxed, and then I know for a fact once I keep him relaxed, that's going to make me relaxed and I'm going to be ready to go.
You know, that five-hour round or plus that we played yesterday, gosh, it's just hard for me to stay focused for that long, I think for anybody. So this format was so much better for us. It was easy. When I say easy, it was very difficult, but it was easy for us to stay focused on the shot at hand, and that's where I think we gelled so well together. We talked about it the other day in the practice round, and today it showed. Even though we made a couple mistakes because of gusts of wind here or there, we held it together and finished off a good round.
Q. Scottie, give me one example how he kept it loose today.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I said it before, I was walking off No. 6 --
BUBBA WATSON: I've got one after him.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: We were walking up No. 6, and I had just missed a short putt on 5, and I felt like I really messed up the hole on 4, and so I was a little bit frustrated with myself. Teddy and him just kind of looked at me, what's going on, why aren't you smiling, and kind of started joking around with me again. We made a really nice putt for par there on 6 and kind of got the day going again, and a birdie on 7 kind of kept it rolling from there.
BUBBA WATSON: Can I tell you mine now? So on 18, I told him after he -- I don't know what you call that second shot --
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Heeled it.
BUBBA WATSON: Sliced it into the most difficult spot to get up-and-down, but I did it. So I told him, I said, hey, because he loved Chipotle, and I do, too, so I said, hey, we're going to Chipotle. If we get this up-and-down we're going to Chipotle. But here's the kicker, though. His wife couldn't wait for this tournament because they go out to eat, she's got all the restaurants lined up where they're going, so he hasn't had Chipotle this week. And I said, well, we're going to have to break it to her that we got that up-and-down, and I said, on top of it, y'all are buying. So it loosened him up, and unbelievable, it doesn't matter how good I hit the shot, if we don't make the putt, and he stroked an unbelievable putt, so it was nice.
Q. What's on the dinner list so far, where have you been?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Gosh, we've been to a place called Pesce, Sofia, and the last couple nights we've gone to this Auction House Market. They've got all kinds of crazy food there. It's good.
Q. What did you have this morning?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Mother's.
Q. How did you come up with your song for the walk-up music?
BUBBA WATSON: He asked me what to put, and I always go with -- it's known for jazz, so I always try to go with jazz and something from here that everybody would know and love, because that's what the heritage is here. That's what this whole town is about, and so why not. I don't know, pay respects or have some honor in some of the music from here.
