Quick Quotes
Q. Can we just start with your overall thoughts on the day?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Overall thoughts on today, I feel like I've just kind of been stuck in neutral this week. Every time I felt like I was going to get something going I'd make a silly mistake. I know Friday late afternoon I finished bogey-double, that kind of knocked the wind out of my sails a little bit, and then I kept trying to make a little run here and there, and I just wasn't able to get it done this week.
Overall I feel like my game is still trending in the right direction and my swing feels pretty good. I'll have a good off week next week and then get ready for New Orleans.
Q. Do you feel like the experience that you've gained this week is taking you closer to a green jacket?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I think every time I go around this place I learn so much more about it. I got to play with another great Masters champion this week with Phil, and it's fun to watch those guys maneuver their way around the course. Felt like I learned a lot from watching him.
Q. Anything specific that you learned?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think I just learned the greens better and better, and which greens I play the pull on, which greens I don't, and just little stuff like that here and there, kind of -- I feel like I know how to attack most of the pins, but just little breaks here and there on the greens I feel like I'm learning a lot.
Q. Are you surprised about Will [Zalatoris] having a shot at it?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I'm not very surprised. I know some of y'all are. I'm not very surprised at all. I've been saying for years, I've known Will since -- we've been playing against each other since we were eight years old. He's one of the best ball strikers I've ever seen, and any week in which he can just get a few putts to fall, you're going to see him up there on the leaderboard.
I am definitely not surprised at all to see what he's doing, and I hope he keeps doing it.
Q. The fact that there's all this talk and you need all this experience around here, does that sort of go out the window for someone like him?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, I think -- like I said before, I think most guys know how to attack certain pins, and with a guy like Will, once he starts seeing a few putts go in, he gets real dangerous. The way he strikes it, he's going to have so many looks around this golf course because he can hit all different kinds of shots. He's not one of those robotic players you're going to see hit one shot around this golf course. He's going to work it into pins, curves the ball kind of like a Bubba, just not on that type of level with -- not that type of level of curve. He curves it, but Bubba curves it a lot.
And so for Will, I think especially on a day like today, you get those pins in the bowls, and he can work it against the wind, whichever way it's blowing, to where he can get it into these pins, and obviously just loads of talent.
Q. Was there anything you saw Will do at a young age when you think back that was pretty --
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I mean, we just -- growing up in Dallas we had such good competition between Jordan, Will. We had just tons of guys, tons of good golf. We always figured that we'd be out here, and Jordan kind of took the lead and did it first, and the guys that are following -- I haven't given myself a chance to win this tournament yet, but Will is doing it. We're obviously really happy for him, and I'm sure I'll be up there in the future.
