Quick Quotes
Q. Trying to figure out a little more who this guy is. I wonder if you have any fun stories from the Royal Melbourne team room or anything like that. Maybe the personality?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Obviously, we don't speak the same language. He speaks Japanese. He doesn't speak my English. I try to speak a little bit of English, but it's hard.
Yeah, I remember in Melbourne, it was fine. It was really funny because we didn't get to know each other too much, and that way we got to know each other a lot. We got to do everything together. So every time I saw him, he would come up to me, let's go, Niemann. It was funny to hear that word from him because you never hear him say anything. He was funny, and hopefully we can get it done.
Q. Is he, I don't know, a down-to-earth guy? How would you describe his personality? He seems very private to us, but to you?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: I think he's a nice guy. The times I've played with him, he's been awesome. His caddie is awesome too. We've had a lot of fun when we play together. Obviously, we don't speak much, but we can understand, and we can like see in the eyes when you're laughing or something funny happen.
Yeah, I think he's a great guy and deserves to win.
Q. What do you like most about his game?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: I think he's one of those players that, when he's on, he's on. I think this week he's definitely on. I think nobody can stop him when he's playing like that.
Q. A lot of talk about his ball striking, but his play around the greens has been tremendous. How good is his short game?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Yeah, he's -- I mean, the thing I remember playing with him, he's a great player from everything. He hit the ball far. He hit it great. He hit it straight, and his short game is pretty good too. That's why he's doing what he's doing.
Q. You know what it's like to kind of be the best player from your country. Obviously, Japan is a little more golf crazy than where you come from. Can you understand the pressure he feels to deliver?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: I don't think he feels any pressure from his country. I think what he's doing right now, he wants to win, and he'll be driven by himself. I don't think he would do it with the pressure of all the country like looking at him. Hopefully, he wins, but he gets it done, he's obviously going to be super happy for Japan, but I don't think he feels that pressure.
