MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 6, 2021

Charles Osborne

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How did it come about you played with DJ?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, my coach actually knows Claude Harmon pretty well and I got to meet Claude at our last college event at the Floridian, and he was just talking to him on the range, and DJ gave us the nod to go ahead and play with him, so yeah, definitely my coach over here set that up for us.

Q. Did he pick your brain about anything, DJ?

CHARLES OSBORNE: I was doing the picking. Yeah, I don't think he was too concerned about what he was thinking, with all due respect. I was definitely trying to get all I could out of DJ.

Q. What was your excitement level these past few months getting ready for this? Were there nights you couldn't go to sleep or did you have dreams or anything?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, I definitely -- you start losing some sleep just thinking about it. Yeah, definitely after the new year, after that invitation comes, you definitely start thinking about it. Your excitement definitely gets higher as the week comes.

Q. Was it hard to focus at college events at all? Did you ever think about it practicing? Were you practicing for Augusta when you were --

CHARLES OSBORNE: That's how I'd put it. Yeah, kind of more practicing for Augusta, but you're still competing. You're competing against some of the nation's best, so trying to do that while preparing for the Masters.

Q. Talk about 16; Gary didn't get it across, DJ didn't get it across and then you kind of one-skipped it.

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, trust me, I didn't know what I was really doing and I was kind of wondering what they hit, and I just decided to chip a little 5-iron and almost cleared the whole thing. Thank God I didn't; I probably would have nailed somebody in the back. Yeah, I got that little one-skip, and I guess that counts, right?

Q. What were you thinking as it came off the club?

CHARLES OSBORNE: I saw it rising, I was like oh, no, I just whiffed the entire water.

Q. Did it make it over?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, it wasn't very good, but it hit the water once.

Q. You didn't do it yesterday?

CHARLES OSBORNE: No, today was the first time trying it.

Q. Have you stayed in the Crow's Nest yet this week?

CHARLES OSBORNE: No, I stay in it tonight actually. I get to experience that tonight.

Q. What are you looking forward to most about being in the clubhouse?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Kind of just soaking it all in, all the memories there. I actually walked up there once so I saw the pictures, all the history that ams have put up there, so yeah, just kind of soaking it all in.

Q. The Champions Dinner tonight, are you planning on --

CHARLES OSBORNE: I'll creep down there. I know it's real close. I'll just walk down the stairs. I'll just --

Q. Have you seen what was for dessert?

CHARLES OSBORNE: I didn't. Oh, wait, it's apple --

Q. Apple cobbler ice cream. That's a favorite of yours, right?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Oh, it has to be. I'm just a dessert guy.

Q. Talk about college golf and where this team is right now. You guys probably haven't had the spring that you probably would have expected but still good. What's you guys' mindset for the team going forward?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, we have a really solid team with Mac Meissner, Noah Goodwin, and our freshman Nathan is putting up some great numbers, so yeah, I'm really excited to see where we're going. I know we had had a couple tough finishes, and I was definitely a part of the tough finishes myself these last couple events, but I think we've got some positives to move forward.

I know we've got confidence coming up in a few weeks, so we're looking to dominate there, move on to regionals and of course make it to natties and try and do something special again.

Q. Did you hear Bryson name-drop you about three times during his press conference today?

CHARLES OSBORNE: I did not.

Q. Every time it was Ollie Osborne, the kid that finished runner-up at the U.S. Amateur. You played with him yesterday?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yes, I got the pleasure of playing with him.

Q. Were there any shots he hit around here that were going to be kind of jaw dropped over the next four days or so?

CHARLES OSBORNE: The one that really got me, carrying that bunker on 5 --

Q. Did he carry the bunker on 5?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, it seemed like with ease. But it was a little into the wind, too, so I had like a full 8-iron in and I still -- really it was that front pin, too, but he was a good 40 by me. I know I kind of put it out there sometimes.

And then on 9 right here, he hit it over all these left trees, like he just took it like straight over them, and I'm over there trying to play it around the golf course, he's just going over it. The drives are definitely jaw dropping.

Q. Anything on the back nine, like 11 said he could do something pretty crazy?

CHARLES OSBORNE: I just played the front nine with him, so I'm sure there's some dumb stuff he could do out there, too, but it's cool to watch, really fun to watch.

Q. What have you learned from him? Have you added five, ten yards just from knowing him?

OLLIE OSBORNE: No, but I'll tell you a lot more mental than physical for sure. He's taught me a lot how to go about this week and kind of take it all in and have fun with it and kind of how to do my best, too, just treat it like -- it's hard to treat it like a regular week, of course, but kind of go back to hitting those putts that you do every day, those five-footers and kind of moving back and forth between that.

Q. Are you a big Neuropeak guy, like brain scans and all that?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Oh, no, I keep it really simple in my opinion, so no, I don't do any of that.

Q. With only three amateurs do you only get to stay one night in the Crow's Nest?

CHARLES OSBORNE: I just did one night. I'm not too sure. I think with the whole COVID thing we can't really room together. I'm sure we could try to do two, honestly.

Q. I know that you can't have anyone else up there, I didn't know if --

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, I'm sure if I wanted to during the tournament I could try, but I'll probably just do one night.

Q. Depends how comfortable the bed is?

CHARLES OSBORNE: Yeah, I guess we've got to test it out tonight. We'll start jumping up and down and see if the champions hear me.
