AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2021

Annabell Fuller

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you talk about the way the course played? Did you feel with the closing holes that the wind was picking up a little bit coming in?

ANNABELL FULLER: I think it was definitely more difficult than yesterday, to judge kind of what clubs to hit and where to kind of land it, knowing the wind is going to take the ball when it lands a bit more, and stuff like that. Kind of knowing the elevation changes as well, especially on 17 with the downhill, the wind's going to affect it a bit more. Definitely made it a lot more difficult compared to yesterday.

Q. Did you finish your round yesterday?

ANNABELL FULLER: Yes, we did, just in time.

Q. Do you think that was an advantage for you?

ANNABELL FULLER: I think it was for sure. I mean, not having to get up so early this morning and finish it in the cold, I think definitely helped. I know a lot of girls finished before me as well. So it was good.

Q. Now, you didn't make the cut here two years ago?

ANNABELL FULLER: No, I didn't.

Q. Does that give a little fire for this year?

ANNABELL FULLER: For sure, 100 percent. Coming into this, I knew I didn't want to think about making the cut because the ultimate goal would be to kind of come out on top. So I kind of tried to push that worry away and focus on the main thing.

Q. Did you have Coach Janice on your bag?

ANNABELL FULLER: Yes, I do.

Q. How do you two work together in a caddie-player relationship?

ANNABELL FULLER: I think we work really, really well together. Janice and I get on really well off the course, so being on the course together with her knowledge and everything around golf and her experience, it's definitely helping me.

Q. Short game, I think is important here and Augusta. You've been practicing at Mark Bostick now for a couple of years, which is really tough for a short game. Do you think -- how has that shaped your game or strengthened that area maybe or made a difference?

ANNABELL FULLER: Absolutely. I think Mark Bostick, people kind of deceive a little bit. It's definitely a little bit more challenging, the run-off on the greens. You have to end up doing a lot more chip shots than I think you hope for, and I think that's definitely strengthened my game a lot, especially, I do qualifying there, and we have the tournament, the Gator Invitational.

Also for the last couple of weeks, I've been focusing on short game, especially -- I broke my finger so couldn't hit long shots for a couple weeks. So I did a lot of chipping around the green. So I think that really helped.

Q. Which finger? How did you break it?

ANNABELL FULLER: I broke the finger on my left hand in the middle. I was changing the height of a bench, and I didn't expect it to be so heavy, and it slammed down on my finger.

Q. So you would have still played the practice round at Augusta National two years ago. You played the golf course. Did that influence the way that you prepared coming back two years later?

ANNABELL FULLER: For sure. I think, kind of, I realized there's a lot more slopes on that course than you see on TV, and I think a lot of people are probably watching the Augusta and the Masters tournament, kind of trying to get a good insight into the course. But I don't think it prepares you for the slopes and the elevations you actually have to kind of incorporate.
