Quick Quotes
Q. The closing stretch is a little difficult. Maybe you can kind of walk us through what happened coming down the stretch there.
My final holes?
Q. Yes.
I don't know. I'm still wondering in my mind, to be honest. I think hole No. 16, I doubled, and my shot from the tee -- like my tee shot wasn't very good, like not at all. I was very lucky I was up there and had a shot into the green. Then for some reason I missed an easy shot, hit the tree, and then couldn't reach the green for my third shot. Then missed my up and down again. So that was kind of sad.
Then hole No. 17, I hit a pretty good shot into the green. It was below the little hump, and then when I was about to putt, honestly, it was a mental mistake because I saw -- like when I was about to hit, I felt I was going to miss it low. Still I hit it, hit it hard to get it up there. Obviously, like went maybe ten feet far -- I mean far of the hole, and just missed the putt. Then I had a pretty good birdie chance here and missed it. I don't know.
I guess my putting wasn't pretty good, especially, like you said, at the stretch, and that was kind of sad, but what can I do? Golf.
Q. Were you trying to keep your mind off the cut? Did it even factor into your head?
Not at all. Not at all. I think that's what I'm most upset about. I wasn't even thinking about the cut. It was just like, I don't know, hit one shot at a time. Like I knew I was going to be there if I was able to do it.
I don't know if unconsciously I was thinking about the cut. I don't know. I'll have to go through that process again like this afternoon and see what happened and learn from that.
Q. Do you feel like you're someone who's able to block out things like that well? Is that normally a strength for you?
Yes. Not today, but like as a player, yes, I think that's an advantage I have. I can look at the scoreboard and not feel pressure at all, just know what I have to do. It's a fact that I'm going to have to accept that knowledge at the end of the day, so why not look at the scoreboard or whatever? I would say, yeah, that's a strength or an advantage I have.
Q. You finished your first round yesterday?
Yes.
Q. Do you think that was an advantage that you got to play one round, one round?
Yes, I think so. I like to -- you know, I feel like your mindset and your golf and your body and everything feels different from one day to another. So I think that was pretty good thing to happen to me yesterday to be able to finish my round.
Q. Looking back, was there anything you learned for next time?
I'm thinking. I'm pretty sure there's something. I'm not quite sure what exactly. I guess I'll definitely have to work on my read on the putting green and then maybe my shots into the green because I'm not sure if it's like my mindset or my technique. So I don't know.
But from this week, I think I can tell myself that I did a pretty good job on kind of like handling the pressure and the emotions and everything out there. So I think that's maybe not one thing I learned, but one thing I -- maybe I learned over the past few months.
Q. How are you feeling ahead of going to Augusta?
Pretty excited. Honestly, I cannot wait. I can't wait to tee off tomorrow and have Glen on my bag, the local caddie there. We have so much fun together. He told me we're going to learn a lot, so I'm excited. Maybe that's when I'm going to learn everything, tomorrow.
Q. What are your thoughts about your experience here up to this point?
This is amazing. I feel really grateful amateur women golfers -- I think I said that right, I don't know -- get the chance to play such an amazing event. It feels like we're professionals out here. Honestly, I don't know, I feel like a queen. It's just like whatever I need, I have it, and even whatever -- even if I don't need it, I'm going to have it. So I don't know, it's amazing.
The golf course, the organization, everything -- it's wonderful.
