Augusta, Georgia, USA
Quick Quotes
Q. Can you just talk to us what it feels like, the energy or the excitement you had to go out there and play this tournament?
SOFIA GARCIA: This is a tournament we've been waiting for a couple years for. That is enough time to create all this excitement. It's a tournament I've been looking forward to, preparing since I heard I was going to be participating. On that side, all the excitement to play and honored to play the first one for my country and on and on. I mean, it's Augusta National, and I think the name says it all.
Q. A lot of history there. Were there any nerves out there on the 1st tee?
SOFIA GARCIA: For sure. I have an early tee time. It's a big tournament. And the excitement to play, so definitely nervous. At the same time, some excitement to go out there and compete after all the waiting.
Q. I guess what helped you to sort of settle down and just get into your game?
SOFIA GARCIA: The first couple holes were a bit bumpy. I have an important up and down on No. 2, and I think that kind of got me going on the game. Obviously, the course is a tricky strategy. You need some strategy to play it. I mean, you get some nerves. Once you make the first short putt, then obviously, that gives you confidence to go on.
Q. Heading into the second round, how do you feel?
SOFIA GARCIA: I mean, I had a tough last nine holes. I think I'm going to try to figure out what I did right in the first round and hopefully make that two nine holes tomorrow and have a good run and try to make the cut.
