Quick Quotes
Q. Talk about what the conditions were like today.
EMMA SPITZ: I think it was a really tough day out there. The weather was warm, but the wind kind of picked up, especially on the second nine, and made some holes really long. I had some hybrids and woods into the green, which is tough, because the greens are firm and you can't get any spin on. Then even the short holes, the pins were short, and it was downwind, so you couldn't stop the ball like next to the pin.
It was really tough out there. I'm pretty happy with my round today.
Q. You're a clubhouse leader. You're happy with that?
EMMA SPITZ: It was a tough round. I really battled 18 holes. I played really solid golf. I couldn't make too many birdie putts, but I think I made some good saves, and I hit a lot of greens, which definitely helped.
Q. Tell us about last night at Augusta National.
EMMA SPITZ: It was amazing. It's always just such an amazing experience. I was glad I was here two years ago already, but seeing it again, it's the same as last year. It's almost like the first time every time you go. It's just so different, and it's so pretty. I just love that it's really nice.
Q. Do you feel like you have an advantage over the field since you played this tournament before?
EMMA SPITZ: I think it definitely helped on some holes. I kind of knew what happens if the wind picks up a little. I think it helped me on the par 5s like to pick a good strategy and also on some of the par 4s, where you can't hit driver off the tee if it's downwind. So I think that kind of helped me.
But I think there's a lot of players that played two years ago, so they have the same advantage as me.
Q. What's your plan to prepare for tomorrow?
EMMA SPITZ: I think I'm going to work a bit on my putting and then maybe I hit some balls and do some chipping. I mean, it's nice that I played so early, I have like the whole afternoon. I might have to do some schoolwork. I have class at night. I think that's it.
Q. Did you watch the men's basketball game last night?
EMMA SPITZ: No, I was asleep. It was too late. I woke up and saw the videos, and my school, they were celebrating like crazy. It's just really nice to see. I'm so happy for them. I think they're doing a great job.
Q. Good luck this week.
EMMA SPITZ: Thank you.
