Quick Quotes
Q. Alexa, you had the honor of hitting the first tee shot today to open the tournament.
ALEXA MELTON: Yes. I have never been more nervous in my life. My heart was racing, but I couldn't stop smiling. I knew there were so many cameras, so I tried not to look at them. I was just smiling with my caddie, Katie [Mitchell]. Yeah, it wasn't the best drive, but I think I hit the cart path, and then I had like 90 in.
Q. You mentioned Katie. How did you decide to get her on your bag?
ALEXA MELTON: I was initially going to just get someone from the course, but Katie texted me, and she was like, who's your caddie for Augusta? And I was like, I don't know. I was just going to get a random person. She was like, I want to be your caddie. I was like, all right, send me your resume. Then, yeah, it just went from there.
Q. What are the conditions out there today?
ALEXA MELTON: The conditions were good. The wind picked up towards the end. So that made it a little bit more tougher. But I think the back nine is a little harder than the front. My scorecard can vouch for that.
Q. Tell us a bit about last night at Augusta National.
ALEXA MELTON: It was -- I got goose bumps so many times, especially watching, I think -- the videos. Oh, my gosh, that one, I got tingles all the way around. It was very -- it was an experience like no other. I can't really like replicate that feeling.
Q. What's your plan to prepare for tomorrow?
ALEXA MELTON: I'll probably just go hit a few putts, hit a few irons. I have so many assignments to catch up on.
Q. What are your goals for tomorrow?
ALEXA MELTON: Stay close to even, just play smart for the most part, and just go and have fun.
