Galloway, New Jersey
Q. Tell me about your round. What went well?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, 8-under is a pretty good score for today. Putting was so good today, just like 25 putts today. Yeah, my short game is very, very good for me today, and I think in the morning not much wind, like on the front nine, so it made it like easier than when the wind came up.
Q. You finished with an eagle?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, on the last.
Q. Tell us about the eagle here.
PORNANONG PHATLUM: I think I just no pressure myself, so just almost straight putt, so it's like -- you know, like relaxed for me, and I make it.
Q. How long was the putt?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: I think it was about 12 feet.
Q. How much confidence does that give you when you finish like that?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, very good confidence.
Q. Is this your best professional round?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: I had one 9-under.
Q. What tournament was that?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: In Thornberry.
Q. Have you been playing this good recently?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: On this course?
Q. Well, just other tournaments or this course.
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, I think this one is the best one.
Q. You had a good finish at the U.S. Open last week?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, I finished 16th.
Q. Do you feel like you're playing good golf right now?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, I feel like I get more confident after last week, and yeah, I tried to be like playing my game and not put pressure on myself, so it makes me more relaxed on the course, and yeah, more good result.
Q. What do you like about this golf course?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: I think the wind makes it very difficult, so yeah, it's more challenging on this course.
Q. But not today?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Not today. Tomorrow going to be more wind.
Q. You're in the lead now, so you're going to be in the lead or close to the lead at the end of the first round. What your thoughts on that, taking that into tomorrow kind of being the tournament leader?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: I didn't expect like this, but I just try my best and try to be like -- make the cut first and try like the best on the final round. But this is a very good result for me.
Q. What did you learn last year at the British Open playing in the final group?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: I tried to learn to be calm like in the final group because there's many people, and make me nervous most of the time. So make me like stay on myself.
Q. Do you feel like you're a more confident player now?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, I think I got like experience that week.
Q. When you're playing, do you look at the leaderboard? Do you see the scores that are out there? Are you surprised by how many low scores there are today?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, I didn't like surprise much because like today is not much wind, too, and then yeah, it makes it a lot easier for everyone.
Q. And the par-5s, at least two of them, the wind is helping?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: Yeah, unless the wind changes, we can get on two par-5s.
Q. And what iron did you hit on the final hole?
PORNANONG PHATLUM: 5-wood.
