OMEGA DUBAI LADIES MASTERS

December 8, 2014

Pornanong Phatlum

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

THE MODERATOR:  Welcome back to the Emirates Golf Club.  Does it seem very long ago since you were sitting here last year?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Yeah, seems a short time to come back.  Yeah, I'm very happy to be back here again.  Very excited.
THE MODERATOR:  How is your game?  Do you feel strong enough to win again for the second time?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  I think I got, yeah, a lot of experience from this year on the LPGA Tour, and hopefully I can win again this time.

Q.  How big was last year's win in terms of your career?  How big was this event win?  How much did it mean to you?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  It gave me more confidence to win this one, because I know this tournament is a major, also can count as a major event in my achievements.  After I win, I gained more experience and more confidence and my play in the LPGA in 2014 is very good this year.

Q.  How do you feel about defending your title?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  I have a lot of confidence this year because I love the course, love the weather.  When I practiced yesterday, it made me relaxed when I played.

Q.  Just going back to last year, obviously you and Stacy were in contention, and Stacy is a very good player.  What was it like, was it surprising for you to beat Stacy, and is that what gave you the confidence this year?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  I know that I'm high ranking in the world, like No. 1 in the world, but when I play, I try to beat myself, also, and try to keep up the score with Stacy.  And when I pass that, it makes me have more confidence that I can do this.

Q.  Who do you think your biggest challengers are this weekend?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  This year, there are many strong players from the European Tour, also, and from LPGA also.  So I think there are many good competitors.

Q.  This week you have your birthday.
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  It's the same as last year.  I celebrate my birthday in Dubai.  So this year I'll try to do the same thing as I did last year, so it might give good luck to win the trophy.

Q.  What especially are you most proud of this year?  What do you think have been your highlights?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Sime Darby in Malaysia I played, almost won.  Played good three rounds, three days.  Finished second place to Shanshan.

Q.  This weekend, do you want to get revenge?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  (Laughing) I don't want to pressure myself on that, but keep an eye on Shanshan.  She's a good player this year, also.

Q.  In terms of, did you notice changes after you won in Dubai, and do you think you're making a mark or inspiration for Thai women to take up golf?  How has the reaction been to you in Thailand?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  If more women played golf in Thailand right now‑‑ because of my playing in the LPGA, so now more young players from Thailand start to qualify in the LPGA, yes.

Q.  What is it you find good about Shanshan's game?  What's the most impressive thing about Shanshan?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  I love when Shanshan plays her own game and is quite relaxed, just like by herself, and doesn't play aggressive much.  But I love the way that Shanshan plays on her game.

Q.  Women's golf coming up in Thailand, is it coming like in South Korea?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  I want to say more Thai players play and also more tournaments in Thailand, also.  In Thailand, the tournaments are growing and we have more events, and some of the players that play in like Asia are coming to Japan or coming to the U.S. Tour.  Yeah, I want that for the younger players to start coming up into the tournaments and play.

Q.  Have you become the role model?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Yes.

Q.  For coming players in Thailand?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Yes.

Q.  Where do you see your game is at the moment in terms of strengths and weaknesses?  What level are you at the moment and what have you learned most from this year in the LPGA?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  My confidence is in the driver, very straight.  So this year, I started to do training, so my body is more stronger so I can hit further.

Q.  And weaknesses?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Slightly on the putting, but now I'm getting more maintain to be good.

Q.  What are your goals for 2015?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  My goal is to win one of the LPGA events and be in the Top‑10.  This year my goal was top 30 and I achieve this already.

Q.  Step‑by‑step?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Yes.
THE MODERATOR:  LPGA Money List or in the world?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  World.

Q.  And what about the challenge on this course, you've played a practice round, so is it playing the same as last year, or any changes?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Same as last year.

Q.  What strengths of your game have to be working well to triumph here?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  The course conditions on the fairway and greens is more softer, so now I'm working on putting.

Q.  So a little bit slower?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Same speed but softer.

Q.  When you say you've been working on your strength, how much further can you hit it off the tee?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  250, around 260, 250.

Q.  So 250, 260.  How much from last year, is that‑‑
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Longer, about ten yards from last year.

Q.  In terms of goals for next year, obviously coming here and winning and doing well here and ending the season is a massive confidence boost for next year?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  Yes, I'd like to win at the end of the year and then start fresh.

Q.  What do you reckon will be the winning score here?
PORNANONG PHATLUM:  About 15‑under.
THE MODERATOR:  Thank you very much.
