STANFORD UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL MEDIA CONFERENCE

October 26, 2024

Elic Ayomanor

Stanford, California, USA

Postgame Media Conference

Wake Forest 27, Stanford 24

Q. Just kind of walk us through that final drive in the last play there. What was the design there? What was the hope? Why didn't it obviously go the way you guys were hoping it would go?

ELIC AYOMANOR: We were just hoping to get a double move on the corner. We got him honestly two plays before and just missed on both ends there. We thought we would get him again.

And the from my perspective, I don't know, we're going to have to watch the tape and see what actually happened, but felt like they clouded it so the corner just stayed underneath -- or sorry, the corner just stayed over the top and so he didn't bite on the first move because he's in cloud.

Then the safety comes over the top into the half and picks it off.

Q. That fourth and six, can you walk us through that play and the big conversion on the touchdown drive?

ELIC AYOMANOR: Yeah, I want to say Ashton got pressured there and so the ball is coming out early. We only have five people in protection on this play. It's MD, or I guess Claude. He got the ball out fast and he put it in a spot where he knew I would be able to see it when I turned my head around and it wouldn't be outside of my frame.

So just put it on my body, and at that point it's your instincts reacting. Really wasn't anything in my mind consciously that I did. My instincts just kick in there.

Q. How does it impact you? Last week Ashton starts and Elijah comes in and this week it's kind of the opposite. Does that impact your game at all? How do you process the moves at quarterback?

ELIC AYOMANOR: Yeah, for receivers it really shouldn't matter too much, right? We have our own individual job to do. And whoever is at quarterback doesn't really impact what our job is going to be, right in it's going to be the same type identify thing no matter who is in.

And so I'll add that all the receivers are confident in all the quarterbacks we have whether it's Justin, Ashton or Elijah. To be honest, it really doesn't impact us. We just go out there and do what we're coached to do regardless.

And we'll let the coaches decide who's going to be playing quarterback.

Q. Just talk about what was the benefit of the at least playing a competitive game after three or four straight blowouts? What's it like being in a competitive game again and just how you can build on the experience.

ELIC AYOMANOR: Yeah, from my perspective I would view every game as competitive, right? I'm competing with the people across from me so every snap that I go out there it's a competitive snap.

I really don't think there is any difference between any of the games we played. You want it execute on every play that you have regardless of if you're winning, losing, or tied.

So for me, I perceive them as all the same.

Q. You have a fourth trip to the east coast coming up next weekend. Is that impacting you, the travel?

ELIC AYOMANOR: I wouldn't say so. We traveled last year. I guess it's a little bit farther. We head out earlier and get time it acclimate. You know, NFL teams do it all the time so I really don't think it's impacting us that much.

To be honest our teachers are really good at Stanford and really understanding of the demands of being an athlete. They understand that and so when we need it, they help us out. They make sure that they'll give us extra time, whether it be giving us just one extra day to submit an assignment or something like those lines.

I appreciate them for that. Helps us out a lot.
