GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS MEDIA CONFERENCE

September 30, 2024

Lindy Waters

San Francisco, California, USA

Media Conference

Q. How did you kind of take the news? I know you've been with pretty much the Thunder your whole career. Did it shock you when the trade went down?

LINDY WATERS: No, it didn't shock me. I'd been talking with my agent for quite some time about possible options, so I was ready for anything that day.

Q. When you heard it was here, what did you think fit-wise and just opportunity?

LINDY WATERS: I think fit-wise it was probably the best fit possible around the league for me and my play style. So I was excited for the news. I was excited to talk to Coach Kerr and excited to be able to play with the greatest shooter of all time.

That's what I do, so getting to be around him every day and learn his ways and kind of implement those to my game, I was happy.

Q. You guys have a lot of good players on this team, very deep roster. What do you see as the path to you getting playing time on the wing?

LINDY WATERS: Just doing the little things, being scrappy on defense, rebounding, using my size to my advantage, and then just doing what I do on offense, which is space the floor, create a lot of movement, a lot of confusion for the defense, and let it fly.

Q. It sounds like you've been in some of these scrimmages lately. What have been your early takeaways from the scrimmages?

LINDY WATERS: High level, competitive, fun. I had a couple of small, little things that kept me out. So I was excited to get back out on the court. All the guys are back in, coaches are watching. I love the vibes out here in Cali, a lot of people would say that.

Q. Are you able to get a feel for the way this place operates on the day-to-day?

LINDY WATERS: Yeah, it was a little bit of a culture shock in the way they do things, but they got championships under their belt. You know I was excited to adjust and get to know all the personnel behind the scenes. They do things very well at a high level, and I think they'll help me get to the next level.

Q. A lot of guys who come here from other teams often say, that yeah, they do things a little bit differently around here. What are some of the differences you were able to pick up on already?

LINDY WATERS: Just performance-wise, training staff, to the chef, to the kitchen, on the court, how they approach your development and your workouts. Everything is just a little more tailored to what's going to make you the best player and not necessarily what's best for the team at that specific point.

They want you to be as happy and as free as you can be because I think that's when players play their best.

Q. So it's like both physical and mental?

LINDY WATERS: Yeah.

Q. What did you take away from your experience in the postseason with Oklahoma City, just getting a chance to be in that environment?

LINDY WATERS: It was awesome. Growing up in Oklahoma as a kid, you always want to play at the highest level. Being with OKC in the playoffs, getting to experience what it's like playing a team multiple times in a week, how hard it is. It just shows how difficult it is to win a championship.

Being with an organization that's done it multiple times -- I'm not saying it's going to be easier by any means, but I think the experience will help a lot.
