CHICAGO FIRE MEDIA CONFERENCE
April 23, 2023
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Press Conference
Atlanta 1, Chicago Fire 1
Q. This team keeps having the results, getting ties out of games that you guys led and now you had a loss today. How do you keep the spirits up and the optimism up when weird things like this just continue to keep happening?
BRIAN GUTIÉRREZ: I feel like we just move on. There's a ton of games left in the season. As you know, it's a long season, and I think we've just got to look forward and look at the tape, see what's wrong, see what we need to do, and learn to be successful and try to get your head up and move forward because the season is long, like I said, and anything could happen.
Q. In terms of being able to corral yourself towards the end of that game, would you mind walking us through that break away and creating that goal for Kacper at the end of regulation time?
BRIAN GUTIÉRREZ: Well, it was a 50-50 ball that the -- defensive made play back and thankfully he gave it to us. So Kacper -- inaudible -- to the keeper, in my head, I was like, follow the play, and I saw he missed it and for me following the play, I got the ball to my feet, I saw him open and I just had a glance at him and I saw a lot of people inside the goal. I was like, there's no way I could like try to finish and I saw him by himself. I slipped it in and thankfully it went in.
Q. You started the game with a double pivot or whatever you want to call that position, how did you like playing that position, and what kind of adjustment is that to go a little bit deeper in the formation after playing most of the season as a ten?
BRIAN GUTIÉRREZ: Yeah, I was told that I was playing the eight this week, and I just tried to maximize the opportunity and try to learn as much as I could, and that was a deep role, which you get the ball more and you have more space to play forward. I just try to help the team and be a good teammate and try to play my best.
